A Guide to Lashify, Lash Extensions, and Pregnancy

Can you still wear Lashify if you’re pregnant?

Yes! Lashify’s award winning, patented system is designed to be free of all harsh chemicals allowing women to still wear Lashify while pregnant and breastfeeding.

Why choose Lashify over Lash Extensions when pregnant?

In general, traditional lash extensions will cause no harm during pregnancy, however there are potential risks associated with the actual application process, whereas the application of Lashify is safe and can be customized to meet your specific needs at the time, all from the comfort of your own home (or for some of our die-hard Lashifiends…the comfort of their hospital bed during labor…because no one wants to deliver a baby lash-less!).

Check out some comparisons of typical lash extensions versus Lashify during pregnancy below.

Wear Time:

Lash extensions: When you’re pregnant, your hormone levels are ever changing. These changes can affect the speed of eyelash renewal. This change may affect the wear time of the lash extensions during pregnancy. Oftentimes, it results in a shorter lash duration during the first trimester and a longer wear time in the second trimester.

Lashify: With Lashify, although your hormones are changing, you do not need to worry as much about lash renewal, as the Gossamer® lashes are not being worn for as long (typically worn for 7-10 days). The beauty of Lashify is that if you do lose a Gossamer lash or start to experience slight lifting, you have the ability to make any touch-ups on your own without having to wait for an appointment.

Application Process:

Lash Extensions: The further along in pregnancy a woman is, the more difficult it may be for her to lie down for a long time. As the pregnancy progresses, lying on your back becomes more difficult. It may be necessary to take small breaks, making the application time even longer.

Pregnant women are often advised not to lie on their backs for long periods of time as they get further along in their pregnancies. Lying on their backs may compress a major blood vessel that takes blood to their uterus, resulting in possible dizziness and possibly reducing blood flow to their fetus. Therefore, as a client, you may have to lie on your side during application.

It is important to make sure that you are able to find a licensed technician who has plenty of experience working with clients who are pregnant or nursing. That way, they will know how best to apply the adhesive safely and effectively without causing any harm to either you or your baby.

Lashify: Lashify can be applied in the comfort of your own home. It can be applied in minutes and allows you the freedom to step away if you are experiencing back pain/aches during application and return at your leisure.

      Sensitivity to Glues:

Lash Extensions: The glue used to apply lash extensions can often contain chemicals/fumes that will not harm the baby but may cause irritation or allergic reactions to the mother. Due to pregnant women’s increased sensitivity to smells, they may be more affected or irritated by the smell of lash extension glue.

There is always a risk - pregnant or not - of an allergic reaction occurring when getting eyelash extensions. Oftentimes, individuals who have been getting lash extensions for years and have had no reactions can develop a reaction over time (again, pregnant or not). For non-pregnant women, the resulting reaction can be eliminated with simple medication. For pregnant women, such prescriptions and medications can be harmful to the fetus.

Lashify: All of Lashify’s bonds are designed to be free of any harsh chemicals. There are no cyanoacrylates, formaldehyde, or even latex in the bond. Those ingredients are, most often, the ingredients that can cause irritation or allergic reactions.

All of Lashify’s bonds are lab-tested and ophthalmologist approved. They have gone through HET-CAM testing, which is a test used to determine the potential irritation of substances, and are safe for all eyes, even the most sensitive.

All-in-all, getting lash extensions can be safe when pregnant, but it also requires that you find an experienced lash technician who is knowledgeable about applying lashes to a pregnant woman…..or you can take matters into your own hands and apply your Lashify in the comfort of your own home, with the piece of mind that everything you are doing is 100% safe for both you AND your unborn baby.

As always, we remind you that everyone is different and we recommend that if you have any concerns, you consult with your healthcare provider before using any beauty products, including Lashify, during pregnancy. They can provide personalized advice based on your health history and individual circumstances.
